The MOHAGINE Client Warranties

Rasta in the garden

If you have something on your mind, please contact us. We cannot help if we do not know. Let us know if you need something or how we can help to make your stay more enjoyable, we will take care of you.

You will feel it as soon as you leave the entrance gate, here is different! We live in a bustling place with rattling motorcycles, quivering quad bikes and roaring vices. This will make everything quieter and you will leave it behind you. Become part of it. Almost all our guests are up early in the morning to either go on tour or leave us again, please be quiet and keep your night at 9 pm.

Drake Bay

Bahia Drake, as it is called here is actually only a beach section from the Drake river to the peak Ganado. The towns of Progreso, Agujitas, Los Planes and Rincon form today’s Drake Bay. In addition, all hotels, which are located on the open Pacific side as in Drake Bay. Agujitas is currently the only place where tourist infrastructure exists, the main landing point of the speedboats of Sierpe is also here. Take a day and explore the other places of Drake Bay. Progreso with the airport, the plain Los Planes and the Rincon de Drake located in the open Pacific.

Please bring sufficient cash with you. There is no a bank nor a cash machine in the place and you cannot pay everywhere with credit card. You can pay your bill by bank transfer or cash.

Environmental care

In Costa Rica we have “green electricity” coming from 110V outlets. Costa Rica generates 100% of its electricity from renewable energies, such as wind power, solar and, most importantly, steam from volcanoes. Nevertheless, we also try to be as environmentally friendly as possible in other aspects as well. Please be aware of your ecological footprint, for example turn off the lights and fans when leaving the cabin. Energy saving lamps are as normal for us as the separation of garbage. Please make sure your items for recycling are clean when disposing of them and place them in the appropriate labelled bins in the kitchen area. Note that we do not change linen and towels daily, only after 2-3 days. (If it is necessary to change it or you need an extra towel, please let us know, we will gladly provide it for you).

MOHAGINE collects garbage on the beach

If you go for a beach walk you might notice that our natural beach is “relatively clean”. We often clean the beach section from the police station to our private jetty from civilization waste (except hotel directly at the beach), plastic, cans, bottles, tipping, etc. Please contribute to it being less tomorrow.
We thank you very much for your understanding and respect for us, our work and the animals and plants. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us, we will gladly help if it is possible for us.

Bring light, fast drying clothes.

Laundry and drying area

We offer you our own laundry service. A washing charge (large machine) costs 5,000 Colones. There is a large drying area available for use next to the laundry room, please use this rather than hanging up wet clothes or linen inside and around the cabins.

Cleaning of shared wet areas

Please refer to the existing inscriptions for the toilet and showers (m/f). We always strive to clean the hygienically sensitive areas according to the load. If there are complaints, please let us know, we will take care of it immediately.

The hotel grounds are guarded around the clock. If you still have the need to close something, please do not hesitate to contact us, we will gladly take it for you. If you have one of the Cabañas with an external bathroom, please use a pocket light at night and watch your way. All of our rooms, cabins and utility rooms as well as the passageways are equipped with smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and emergency lights for power failures.

Smoking and open fire

In Costa Rica smoking is prohibited by law in all public places. Please smoke only at the designated place. Open fire of any kind on our finca is prohibited (except smoking area). Please take this rule very seriously. Even if candles and gas lamps are very romantic, all our buildings are made of natural materials and in our place there is no fire brigade!
If a fire breaks out, use the fire extinguishers. If a fire extinguisher is not found, please let us know immediately. In addition, you can find water connections with long hoses at various locations in the garden.

In our lounge there is a kitchen equipped with all necessary appliances (4-flame stove, microwave, fridge, rice cooker, extra fridge for drinks, etc.), which can be used for cooking and preparing your own meals. Kitchen consumables like oil, coffee and tea are available free of charge. For your fresh products, please use the refrigerator. Each cabin has its own food storage container in the fridge. Please do not leave food in the kitchen area or in your cabin as it attracts animals, and always clean your equipment and the dining table after use.

Due to our own source, we can provide you with fresh drinking water – all year round! No water shortage in the dry season and no dirty broth in the rainy season. 12 months a year, we offer tested drinking water quality in the required quantity – enjoy it, it tastes delicious! (No claim for reimbursement of the accommodation price for non-availability for technical reasons).

Power supply

We are still connected to the local electricity network. Since we are in a very remote and difficult to reach place, there are occasional more or less long power failures. Please understand that neither the fixed network nor the Internet function, sometimes also no mobile network. Please call again later, thank you.

We are in one of the most species-rich places on our planet, but no guarantee can be given for the sighting of certain animals.
On all day trips you should take plenty of water, sun cream and sun protection for the head and eyes, while hiking in the jungle also insect protection. During the boat trips, a little sea strength is helpful, possibly you should provide with medication.

Fruits and animals

On our finca you will find over 50 different fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants. First of all, these are for the animals, you may also consume with them, but please contact us and do not reap yourself.

DO NOT FEED!!! Please do not feed the animals and do not lure them to your Cabaña! They are wild animals and that is what you should know. The hummingbirds will continue to drink your nectar from blossoms and not just from presented water donors and the monkeys will not steal a picnic from the table in the future.

At the moment the only network available in Drake is from Kölbi. This sometimes has connection issues that are beyond our control. Please take this into consideration in your feedback. The National Insitute of Electricity (ICE) is installing fiber optic cable in Drake so soon we will have a better signal and a higher internet velocity. Usually, the connection is fine, except in power failures or in the evenings when most of our guests want to send messages and photos to their loved ones at home. In this case, please be patient and take some time for a nice walk through our garden.

We gladly give you the opportunity to enjoy a delicious breakfast, even if you have a very early tour! This is served between 5:20 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. (adapted to the tours) in the restaurant “Careys” (5 minutes walk from the hotel towards the beach). It costs 4,000 Colones per person and includes coffee or tea, a smoothie and a fruit plate plus your choice between five different meals. If you decide to have the breakfast, please let us know the evening before, so that we can book you for the next morning.

In Agujitas, there is a primary school and a high school, an Ebais station (see health, a very small clinic), a police station, a community center, various supermarkets, restaurants and sodas, bars, an ice cream parlor and 3 churches. There is a bus service to La Palma. You can rent taxis, motorbikes, quad, 4×4 or minibus, depending on the route and the number of people. Beautiful beaches or most excursion destinations as well as Sierpe can be reached by speed boat. In addition, there is a “payment station”, a possibility to carry out cash transfers via online banking of the BNCR (only conditionally functional).

Supermarkets and restaurants

In the village there are various supermarkets, restaurants and sodas, bars, an ice cream parlor, and there is also a pharmacy. If you want to eat outside our finca, we recommend the restaurant “Careys”. Here you can have delicious, generally typical Costa Rican, dishes at an affordable price. There is also “Claudio’s Grill”, directly opposite our finca, which is a great alternative to cooking yourself. Here all the meat is prepared on the grill giving it a delicious smokey flavour. Please note that it is not possible to pay with credit card everywhere in Drake.

There is an Ebais station (a very small clinic), open on workdays from 7 am to 4 pm. Here minor injuries and aches are treated as well as the mothers cared for. There is no hospital or pharmacy.

Flotsam and collecting mussels

Everywhere in the buildings you will find beach property. If you like it, take it with you! But please bear in mind the weight of your suitcase. In small baskets we have put together a collection of decorative pieces, seeds and wood remnants, as well as some pieces and stones. We would like to thank you for not collecting shells and snails on the beach, affecting the sand and without sand there is no beach!
